24 Seconds

It's May 31st at 8:29 p.m. and tomorrow I begin my experiment. I'm feeling the pressure of what I've decided to do. Will I be able to do this everyday? What if I can't think of something new to do on a certain day? I'm watching the Pistons right now and the shot clock is reset to 24 seconds everytime the ball connects with the basket. Sometimes they score and other times they miss. I think my plan to do something I've never done before every day may not always hit the mark and make for exciting reading. (Just a warning.) But come back anyway because some days may be at the very least interesting or perhaps I might make a 3-point play and do something entertaining or meaningful.

The Plan

There are four days until I implement my 90 Days to Fifty plan. I've been spending some time thinking about what falls into the category of things I've never done before. At first it was difficult because I've determined that one of the great aspects of being young is that everything is new. There are so many firsts. Just so you know...I won't be plannning 90 activities/actions before I start on June 1st. That seems like it would be counterproductive. Part of this experiment requires that I have some days where when I wake up, I don't know what I will actually do. That said, I have come up with a few ideas. I've never been in a hot air balloon. When I turned 40, that was my suprise gift but the weather never cooperated so I let it slide. I've also been wanting to get a hot stone massage. But the real question will be ...do I finally eat a White Castle slyder for the first time in my life. Stay tuned to find out!

Set-Up

On June 1st, it will be 90 days until I turn 50 years old. While I think I'm in shock, I know that I must do something different to prepare for this event. So every day I will do something I've never done before. I'll document it in this blog so I have proof that I have shaken my world up. It's easy as the days pass to get into a rut. Where once I was anxious to do something different, I now seem ok to be washing dishes or watching Medium, American Idol, Grey's Anatomy, Lost and my most favorite irreverent show, Boston Legal. Obviously, I'm way to friendly with my DVR. I can't allow this to continue. I have a few days to prepare so I need to roll up my sleeves and jump in to this project. Another reason to start this blog is because people keep asking me what I want to do to celebrate my 50th birthday and I really don't know the answer to that question. I guess I'm about to dig into the mine and see what gems, if any, I may find. I'm off to find a shovel.
